: What I Did While Tumblr Was Down
Looked first to the left, then to the right of my computer screen. Unhooked my feeding tube, emptied out my swollen catheter bag, tried to remember how to blink. Normal standing-up stuff. Went outside. It was warm; missed winter, I guess. Tried telling a passing stranger an opinion I had but they said “why are you telling me this, who cares, stop making noise.” I learned that one of my friends was in the Marines, one of them had been hospitalized for ‘malingering’ (a disorder where you lie about having a disorder), one of my friends was in graduate school, but anyway I didn’t really care about all that, because I had friends on the internet now. I saw a cat and thought I’d take a picture of it to amuse strangers but it bit my nose off and a nearby doctor said “oof, that’s gonna be some nasty rabies.” Everything outside looked so real, like it was right there. ‘I like you, world,’ I said, but it didn’t say anything back to me, like I wasn’t even special.
